Zinc Borate

Item No: ZNB-35

Zinc borate, which is in the form of a white crystalline powder, is an inorganic compound that does not dissolve in water. There are various types of zinc borate available with different ratios of zinc and boron, as well as varying water contents. Zinc borate exhibits low toxicity and is considered non-hazardous. Its fire-retardant properties are fundamental for numerous industrial applications. Additionally, zinc borate offers a range of valuable features. It is commonly utilized in the plastic and cellulose fiber industries, as well as in the production of paints and fungicides.

Applications:

·         Paints, Pigments, and Adhesives:

-Flame-retardant and smoke-suppressing properties.

-Corrosion inhibiting pigment in combination with zinc phosphate or barium phosphate.

·         Polymers:

-Halogen-Containing Systems: Char promoting agent, glass-forming with antimony trioxide and alumina hydrate, anti-drip properties.

-Halogen-Free Systems: Porous boron ceramic formation, improved flame retardancy with alumina hydrate, magnesium hydroxide, red phosphorus, or ammonium polyphosphate.

·         Polyamides:

-Flame-retardant and smoke-suppressant properties.

-Works with phosphinate-based and halogen-free electrical insulator plastics.

-Acts as a char promoting agent, suppresses afterglow with alumina hydrate, magnesium hydroxide, and red phosphorus.

·         Agriculture:

-Increases crop yields, prevents plant diseases.

-Used in micronutrient formulations and fertilizers.

·         Other Uses:

-Flame suppressant in cellulose fibers, paper, rubbers, and textiles.

-Wood treatment for fungus control, improves lubricants' friction properties.

-Adhesive for bonding aluminum foil and fiberglass.

-Flux in insulating ceramics, reduces firing time and temperatures.

-Used in manufacturing bricks and porcelain.

Zinc borate is a versatile flame retardant with wide-ranging industrial applications, including in paints, polymers, agriculture, and wood treatments.
